Anne-Marie Nakiyaga

What is one thing you want students to know about you?
I want students to know that it is okay if math feels confusing, frustrating, or even a little scary - you are not alone in that. I'm not here to judge or rush you. I'm not here to judge or rush you. I'm here to meet you where you are, break things down in a way that makes sense, and help you build real confidence - one step at a time. I believe every student can succeed in math with the right support, and I'd love to be that support for you!
What's your educational background?
BSc. (Hons) Applied Mathematics at Toronto Metropolitan University.
What are 4-5 personality traits you would use to describe yourself?
Patient, encouraging, creative, empathetic, down-to-earth.
Name your favourite TV show, movie, and song:
Favourite TV show: MasterChef: The Professionals
Favourite movie: Jason Bourne series (I can't pick one!)
Favourite song: Lauryn Hill - Tell Him
What are some of your hobbies?
I love gardening, cooking, dancing, hanging out with friends/family and taking long walks.
What was your favourite subject in high school?
Definitely math! I was initially struggling in elementary school and my mother got me a tutor. When I reached high school, I loved how comfortable it felt after having help and realized that I have an analytical mind. That led me to pursue an applied mathematics degree.
What is something you would tell your younger self in high school?
Something I would tell my younger self is "Learning is a process. There are highs, there are lows - but what matters is that you don't give up. Mistakes are part of learning, and asking for help is a strength - not a weakness. You're doing better than you think!"
