Organizational Coaching
While understanding of content is paramount to academic success, having all of the ancillary organizational skills maximizes the probability of that understanding being applied efficiently to the end of a strong result. Whether it's keeping inventory of upcoming tests/assignments/homework, study skills, assignment completion, note-taking, we have a suite of time-tested approaches to help our kids become more effective, organized, and capable students.
Tracking Academic Obligations
Teaching students effective methods for keeping track of due dates and ensuring work is being completed to meet those due dates. A variety of different tools are explored to give students a method and a toolkit that are specifically suited to their unique organizational style.
Extra-Curricular Time Management
So many of our students participate in meaningful extracurricular activities, ranging from hopeful Olympians to aspiring concert cellists - this type of commitment requires meaningful planning and time management skills to successfully co-exist with a strong academic effort. Our goals is to help students create pockets of time to ensure academic obligations are being met consistently without sacrificing sleep.
Assignment Completion
We've all seen or heard of the student who wheels off their assignment on zero hours of sleep the night before the deadline. This is the exact scenario none of us ever wants to be in and this segment of our prep plan is about showing students how to break large assignments into smaller chunks, scaffolding the completion of each chunk, creating a timeline for these chunks, and creating checkpoints for securing guidance.
In-Class Learning Skills
When material is being delivered in class, it's crucial that students put them selves in a position to retain as a much information as possible as well as create a suite of resources that can be easily understood when it comes time to review for the test. Note-taking skills, seating location, and listening techniques are emphasized.
Test Prep Skills
Maximizing the probability of success on a test requires an approach that is systemic and focused on the type of evaluation. Our goal is to provide a system for test prep that is rooted in proper material selection, sequencing, material review, and subject-specific skill practice techniques. Knowing how to properly prepare for the various elements of a test makes a meaningful difference in student success.
Diet, Sleep, Exercise, Nutrition
The reality is that the better the student feels, the better they are going to be able to perform in all aspects of the academic process. Some of the most meaningful determinants of physical and mental wellness are the four items listed above. We coach students on how to manage these aspects of their lives to ensure they are able to handle the rigour of their academic and extra-curricular obligations.
